Swipe Market payments and handover
Fees. Buyers pay the item price plus a 3% buyer fee (minimum A$0.50). Sellers receive the item price minus a 3% seller fee (minimum A$0.50) minus the actual Stripe card processing fee for that payment. The full breakdown is shown before you pay or accept.
Bid fee. If an item is sold through a bid and the final price is more than 50% above the start price, SwipeStuff takes an additional fee of 10% of the amount above the start price, on top of the normal fees. The fee is shown before you confirm.
Payment window. After a seller accepts a request (a Match), the buyer has 6 hours to pay. If payment isn't made in time, the Match is cancelled and the seller can choose another buyer.
Payment held by SwipeStuff. The payment is held by SwipeStuff until the handover is confirmed. Payments are processed by Stripe. Sellers receive payouts through a Stripe Express account (Australia only).
Handover code. After paying, the buyer gets a 6-digit handover code. Only give this code after you have the item in your hands and have checked it. The seller enters the code to confirm the handover. After 5 wrong attempts the order is locked and SwipeStuff support steps in. If the code can't be used, the seller may confirm the handover with a photo taken in the app at the meetup location, and the buyer is notified.
Release. The payout is released when the buyer taps "I received the item", or 48 hours after a confirmed handover if the buyer hasn't confirmed and no dispute is open. Payment is never released on the seller's word alone. A new seller's first payout is reviewed by SwipeStuff.
No-shows. If a buyer doesn't turn up to an agreed meetup, the buyer is refunded in full and receives a strike. After 3 strikes, the account can't send new requests.
Disputes. Either side can open a dispute before the payout is sent. This pauses the payout while SwipeStuff reviews the order, including the order chat and photos, and decides to release the payment, refund the buyer, or split it. Decisions are recorded.
Unclaimed payouts. If the seller doesn't complete Stripe payout setup within 80 days of payment, the payment is refunded to the buyer.
Negative balances. If a refund or card dispute happens after a payout, Stripe may recover the amount from the seller's account.
